concert world with his interpretations of both the Modern
and Romantic piano repertoire. Lauded and acclaimed by
the critics, he met rapturous applause wherever he played
- whether it was Carnegie Hall or Calcutta . . . . Yet if
success brought him fame and a measure of prosperity it
also robbed him of privacy and peace. His life became a
hurried succession of flights, taxi rides, rehearsals, concerts,
parties, more recitals .... It could not last. Within him a
self destructive impulse began to take hold, finding focus in
a strange premonition finally realised by his own untimely
death at the age of thirty-one.
