Redlinger; to the practice of policing, including—the first appearance of John Van Maanen's "The Asshole"; to a final section on socializing for policing, with an Epilogue on the socialization of on researcher (John Van Maanen's "On Watching the Watchers"). An Appendix lists selected field studies of police—works publihed and in progress.
