In pursuit of answers he entered a stairway that lead him to the Quakers, then to the Vedanta philosophy, then on to P.D. Ouspensky and the teachings of G.I.Gurdjieff. By chance he found John Godolphin Bennett, one of the leading exponents of Gurdjieff’s ‘system’, as it was known, and studied for 7 years at the Institute for the Comparative Study of History, Philosophy and the Sciences. Finally in 1957 Subud arrived in England with the arrival of Pak Subuh and his entourage. This book contains a dramatic account of the author’s first resistance to this movement, and then an about turn with accounts of changes of consciousness. Knowledge is one thing and belongs to the world of Science. But Consciousness is something other. And Will belongs in yet another dimension.
