اروین یوهانس اویگن رومل به آلمانی فرماندهٔ نیروهای آلمانی، ملقب به «روباه صحرا» و از همه مهمتر معروف به مارشال مردم و همچنین به رومل ۸۸. وی توانست در دوران جنگ جهانی دوم پیروزیهای بزرگی در شمال آفریقا و فرانسه به دست آورد. رومل به خاطر بزرگ منشی و رفتار مناسب با زیر دستان، اسیران جنگی و دشمنانش یکی از بزرگترین مارشالهای تاریخ میباشد. هنوز هم درسهای مارشال را در تمام دانشکده و دانشگاههای نظامی جهان تدریس میکنند. هیچکدام از افراد رومل پس از جنگ به جنایات جنگی متهم نشدند و سربازان متفقینی که هنگام جنگ اسیر شده بودند گزارش میدادند که با آنان دوستانه برخورد میشدهاست.

He followed this up with numerous successes early in World War II in both Europe and Africa, before facing his biggest challenge – organizing the defence of France. Implicated in the plot to kill Hitler, Rommel chose suicide over a public trial.
